About the Author:
Ken Cartisano was born in New York City, grew up in Miami, and currently lives in Edgewater, Florida.
I have been an avid reader since I was five years old. I discovered Science Fiction at the age of 14 with writers like Heinlein, Asimov, Simak, Farmer and Ellison. One of the first Sci-Fi books I ever read was Ray Bradbury’s ‘Illustrated Man.’ If you do a little math, you will find that this makes me about 61 now. I have very little experience as a professional writer and frankly, I did not want to write this, or any other book; but over the years, about a dozen plots or story ideas have popped into my head, which were good enough to write down. My intention was to present these ideas to someone who could do them justice. Alas, no one was interested in my ideas, so I took a crash course in writing, and started with the first idea on my list.
Thirteen pages later, I realized my first idea sucked and abandoned it for this: My second story idea. Which, I had no idea at the time, would turn into a trilogy. (If I had, I would have skipped to idea number three.) I started this story in June of 2008, and had most of the trilogy written by early 2012. The rest of the time has been spent editing the work. In those two years, I’ve managed to cull almost 30,000 needless words.
I believe this is a great story, and one that needed telling, and I have repeatedly wished, insincerely, that someone else had written it. (You wish only the best for your loved ones, but you’re glad that they settled for you.)
I have no special writing skills other than a vivid imagination and a dogged determination to make my prose readable.
As for my efforts, I contend that what I lack in talent, I make up for with diligence and divine intervention. God knows how many great scenes were running through my head while waiting in line at the grocery store, cat food in one hand, Spam in the other. I find this one of the most satisfying aspects of writing, the ability to work on your plot while standing in line, or waiting for the light to change.
